Auditions

Audition Information and Sides are here just for you.

there was this.

Over a decade ago, an idea struck me to create short audio plays that showed one moment in people's lives. Nothing more. So, I wrote a 10 minute play for the stage entitled "Once on the Tiger's Back," which had two characters President Johnson and Under Secretary of State George Ball and showed the moment that LBJ decided to commit to fighting the war in Vietnam. But they all weren't seminal moments like that, I wrote one about two people meeting for a date after texting each other through a dating app. A daughter coming to see her estranged and now terminally ill father. Two men walking down the street to attend Woodstock. Two combat veterans dealing with PTSD who meet everyday on a park bench. A friend coming out to his best friend. I hope they touch something in people and resonate with them. And I hope you'll take a chance and audition for a part. One of the most important aspects f our mission statement is to bring in new, fresh voices, especially from marginalized groups. Maybe you'll even want to write one and produce it.

How to Audition

*Find a role you really want to play.

*Record your audition reading only the part that

you are auditioning for. The other part is provided

for context.

*Don't concern yourself with what you think I may

want from the character, play it as you see it.

*Feel free to submit different takes on the character

if you like.

*This is your audition. Relax and have fun with it.

*Send it to me at jeffreybillard@gmail.com.

I'll let you know when I receive it.

*Keep in mind that these are all unpaid roles, as we

don't make any money from this.

*All shows are free to listen to and are given a world

wide release on The Mutual Audio Network.

Sides

Absent, Always

Absent, Always is the story of a mature woman who comes to visit her terminally

ill father in the hospital after not being close with him for many years.

Please note that we are only auditioning for the daughter part, as the

father has already been cast.

Father:

And everything I was doing was more important than my family.

Daughter:

We did miss you.

Father:

And I missed you and your brothers. I missed everything, and that's my biggest regret. I'm like a character in a Beckett play, "absent, always, it all happened without me."

Daughter:

You were busy...you had your career. We were so proud of our dad. We watched you accept all of your Tony awards on TV. You looked so handsome in your tux. We always bragged to our friends about you.

Father:

But you barely knew me--

Daughter:

We had great memories. Remember the Christmas stories you'd make up for us? We'd all snug under a blanket and you'd come up with all those stories that you'd weave us into.

Note: We are only auditioning for the daughter part, as the father has already been cast.
