there was this.
Over a decade ago, an idea struck me to create short plays that showed one moment in people's lives. Nothing more. So, I wrote a 10 minute play for the stage entitled "Once on the Tiger's Back," which had two characters: President Lyndon Johnson and Under Secretary of State George Ball and showed the moment , as I pictured it, that LBJ decided to commit to fighting the war in Vietnam. But they all weren't seminal moments like that, I wrote one about two people meeting for a date after texting each other through a dating app. A daughter coming to see her estranged and now terminally ill father. Two men walking down the street on their way to Woodstock in 1969. Two combat veterans dealing with PTSD who help support each other and meet everyday on a park bench. A friend coming out to his best friend. Stories that exist in that one moment.
I hope these moments touch something in people and resonate with them. And I hope you'll take a chance and audition for a part. One of the most important aspects of our mission statement is to bring in new, fresh voices, especially from marginalized groups. Maybe you'll even want to write one and maybe even produce it. We always strive to be inclusive, and while we may not have enough roles to cast everyone, we have a number of allied production companies who belong, as we do, to the Mutual Audio Network, and they're always on the lookout for new voices as well. So please join us and let your creativity flow.
